For complex airports, hospitals, hotels, towers and commercial developments, this role goes well beyond selecting glass, aluminium or cladding. What does a facade consultant do during design?
The consultant begins by understanding what the facade is expected to achieve. This includes the architectural expression, site climate, building use, programme, budget, local regulations and maintenance strategy. Early advice is valuable because facade decisions affect far more than appearance.
